Loaded it all onto card plus the finean -g file . fired up first with finean file then fired up with polnav exe. but still wouldnt let me register map ,BUT you can still use the map even tho it says Unregistered "

Very strange ,  :?:

To register the map you first need to run finean_4kg.exe and it will say that the map is unregistered. Click to register and it will ask for an unlock key. Type anything you like.. doesn't matter what.. and it will register the map.
From then on, run polnav_rm_release.exe to start PolNav 5.

Tried that.
The only way you can register the map is to change Australia.map to Star.map, otherwise all it says is "No map database found" then it closes down. then once you have the map registered and you change back to the other file, you have to change the map name again.
Then it runs for a while until you get na .exe error and closes down again.

I've even tried a hex editor to find a way around with no success.

Yep geoff same here ,But as I said in earlier post .You can still use the map  without any hassles just that when you first start it say,s register map ..but it works out in the end .you dont have to register map evry startup up

Map seems pretty good for (country )areas ....

G'day Geoff,

Why did you have to change the name back to Australia.map?
I just left it as Star.map and mine is working just fine. I only had to register it once.

Wasn't there any instructions inside the archive?

Instructions:

1. Rename Australia.map (located in PolNav-Australia\Map\Australia) to Star.map
2. Copy finean_4kg.exe to the PolNav-Australia directory.
3. Run Finean_4kg.exe. It will complain about the Map not being registered.
4. Go to the register menu, enter any code you like and press "done".
5. It will say the map is registered.
6. Exit Finean_4kg.exe, you will find the key is generated under \Map\*.key.
7. Start PolNav with polnav_rm_release.exe

Mine doesn't complain if i leave it as Star.map or rename it to Australia.map but if i run finean_4kg.exe, it has to be called Star.map so i just left it as that. I'll try and figure out why yours is doing that. I just assumed you had it up and running.

Okay, I'll re-install it on my GPS following those instructions to make sure i haven't done anything different. Maybe there's something that your Chinese clone doesn't like?

Bugger. One has made a liar out of me at this stage. but the other is having trouble getting satellites.

The wether may have a bit to do with it, A cool change has just hit.

EDIT

It's 10:28 by this clock and the unit that I had trouble with the sats, just gave the error message. The other one is still going. But I think with the one thats still going I reverted back to finean 4 and replaced the map.

Hmm.. that's no good. What was the error message it gave?
I re-installed everything from scratch and followed those instructions exactly as written and it's sitting here hummimg along just fine with a 3D fix. I had it running in the car yesterday for a few hours without any errors. I wonder if it's hardware related.

I wonder if a moderator could cut and paste these PolNav related posts into a new thread?

yes  agree this thread needs moving ,bloody hard to find the Polnav 5 session..

Mioman I have the same probs as geoff still.. I thought I had cracked it but ,after leaving my unit run navigating around my shed it come up with contact vendor re Map reg or something similiar ,I followed you Instructions to a Tee ,Pity cos while I was mucking around with it in my office, I found it to have all or most of the streets, developments on it around my area than a lot or all of the others,,

Actually the only ones that show my own street is polnav and destinator,,

Hope someone can come up with an answer as thus far it looks Impressive ..

 cheers all MM :)

I agree.  We need a separate post now that PolNav/Finean is up with an upgraded version and one of the latest Australian maps.

I have a trial tts for it so I will give it a go.  Last time the voices were so different.

I had problems at first but I used the Finean_4kg.exe crack and renamed the Australia map to Star.

There after, no problems.

It runs well on my Tevion P310 with the accidentally modified registry that I cannot restore.
